Looks like somebody could use a cupcake

The trend of cupcakes in lieu of wedding cakes has far from died down, and lucky for DC-area brides, someone else has thrown their hat into the ring - everyone's talking about Georgetown Cupcake.

Sisters Sophie LaMontagne, 30, and Katherine Kallinis, 28 (pictured above) opened their small bakery on Valentine's Day and it's been cupcake-madness ever since. Read more about the food frenzy here.

Adorable! I can definitely picture them served on multiple tiers at the perfect preppy wedding or bridal shower. Need more convincing? Take a look at these. . .

you. . .

. . .know. . .

. . .you. . .

. . .want. . .
. . .one.

And now.

I love the idea of cupcakes at showers and in lieu of a wedding cake (going to do that for my own!). I am boycotting this store, however, after we recently trekked into Gtown to get cupcakes and drove around forever to find parking only to discover a sign on the window that said: "Out of cupcakes. Will have more at 4:30." I wasn't about to wait around for an an hour + so instead went to Buzz. So much easier and quite delicious!

The Washington Post article mentions the same problem. The girls are supposedly concentrating on cupcake catering for weddings, showers, etc. with less of an emphasis on walk-in business. Guess it depends how long you're willing to wait for a cupcake! Buzz is also great, and there's always cakelove, which also does wedding catering.

But why bother opening a store in Georgetown then? It doesn't make sense. Check out this string on chowhound: http://www.chowhound.com/topics/488357

Fair enough. Safe to say you won't be getting your cupcakes from there - there's always cakelove!
